Per Aspera: The Show

A screenplay-to-animation production pipeline with held drawings, mouth rigs, reusable scenes, and reproducible edits.

01 / THE PROBLEM

What needed solving.

Changing one sequence in a long episode should not silently alter approved footage, dialogue timing, subtitles, or sound elsewhere.

02 / SYSTEM OUTLINE
  1. 01Drawings + timed edit
  2. 02Compositing + bounded re-encoding
  3. 03Verified episode revision

Simplified from the implementation and project notes.

03 / TECHNICAL DECISIONS

How it fits together.

Production is organized into versioned sequences, edit descriptions, render scripts, and review artifacts. The opening-v11 notes record 38 drawings across 18 camera setups, using one to three held drawings per action rather than optical-flow interpolation.

Existing mouth rigs, environmental effects, and ship animation remain separate from pose selection. The episode-v10 edit replaces a bounded frame range, reuses unchanged picture segments, and verifies the reused media by hashes.

Delivery checks include complete video/audio decoding, frame count, duration, subtitle and chapter checks, encoded boundary samples, and audio-join measurements. Packet and stream hashes distinguish a picture change from an audio-only revision.

04 / WORKING METHOD

Building and checking it.

The work proceeds through selected drawings, timed edit descriptions, renders, encoded-frame review, and a preserved delivery version. Earlier versions remain available so an accepted scene does not disappear during revision.

The production notes make a useful distinction between checking media integrity and judging a performance: a successful decode or an unclipped waveform is not a listening review.

05 / STATUS & LIMITS

Limited animation remains a deliberate constraint. These artifacts document a production workflow and a delivered episode version, not continuous character animation or a fully automated film studio.
